Dth is the alias of Devin Hildebrand, who uses field recordings and guitar as the base of his ambient/found-sound compositions. His debut album I Hope I Can Feel Something Like That One Day is a brief 20 minutes of beautiful sonic spontaneity. It's difficult to explain, because of its length and simple concept, however I'll use the best of my knowledge to persuade your interests.
Like I mentioned, the majority of the 5 tracks are based around acoustic guitar and found-sound. The found-sound mostly consists of conversations between people, of which Devin uses to either serve as the rhythm of the song, or to frantically edit it so that it jumps around the left and right channels to grab your attention. It's successful in doing so too; since I Hope I Can Feel Something Like That is non-narrative, I find myself listening to the recorded conversations between people. For example, the final track "Humans Are Like Ripples" documents people giving their current moods a rating (majority of the people give themselves a 7), and the background music is very somber, however the humor in their explanations compensate that.
Devin also incorporates drums into the mix on the title track, where they sync up with a recording of a man complaining about his legs ("I've got these goddamn legs; if I try to walk I'll fall") perfectly. Acoustic guitar flourishes are also used, once again perfectly contributing to the song. I Hope I Can Feel Something Like That One Day is a complex listen, with minimal instrumentation and the ability to create a soundscape Tim Hecker would be flabbergasted when hearing. Inviting, calm and hypnotic, to say the least.
