You ever get asked the question, "What are calories?" Due to my recent discoveries, you can now answer with: "An amazing band from the UK that will make you start playing air-drums and air-guitar at the same time". Yeah, this album is that good. Calories came about from the ashes of their former band, Distophia. The difference? Minus one member.
The first track, "A Bear A Bison" might make you distrust this blog a little bit. It starts off with a fake-emo sound kinda making you say "eww". But it gets great from there. The song just starts getting these noisy outbursts and you'll be saying to yourself, "This ain't too bad." Speaking of noisy outbursts: the second track "Caught in the In-Between" starts off with distortion-drugged guitars with singing equivalent to Rob Crow, just a little deeper. The album grows bigger and bigger. Sort of like those "Grow-a-____" toys that are sold at grocery stores. The title track "Adventuring" has a pounding, yet sunny bass line that becomes the highlight of the track later on. Some songs, even though they are songs, are more like fillers because they sound similar to the previous song and they seem like "segue" type tracks. They're easy to find too. "Oh K.S.S.T." is one of the best songs on the album, it's in the top three. This is where hardcore/emo influences become apparent. Its sad rainy day melody leaves you headbanging in love and appreciation for this band. Fillers come along, and we get to the final track, "Forests of Varg". I can easily tell it's #3 in the top three list. Who can blame it either? It's one of the slower tracks on this next to "Drugged" which I'm not really fond of but... forget about it. Anyways, "Forests of Varg" is great, everything is.
I'd recommend this to any fan of any form of rock music. Even MCR fans could enjoy this. It's accessible and addictive. So, I encourage you to buy this record. If you can't find it anywhere, then look on iTunes.
The Infamous Top Three List:
1. Oh K.S.S.T.
2. Caught in the In-Between
3. Forests of Varg
