Teenage Cool Kids - Foreign Lands (Protagonist Music, 2009)

Teenage Cool Kids are a band from Denton, Texas, and are today's answer to pop punk. Their latest release Foreign Lands is a lot like their debut release Queer Salutations except this fills in every crevasse and crack Queer Salutations had. I never really use comparisons like this, but I would say this is a missing Meneguar album. Both bands have identical sounds, which isn't a bad thing. If a Meneguar fan were at a party, though, and listening to Foreign Lands, they would most likely think this is Meneguar.

Every song has about 10 different melodies crammed in and making it poppier than ever. The only track that differs from everything else is the title track, "Foreign Lands"; it's about five minutes and the melody is more dark. As for everything else, the songs fit perfectly with a sunny summer day. Hyper-melodicism is a huge strength of this album. The guitar riffs are technical and represent songs using just about as many notes the guitarist can cram into the songs. The only down-side to the songs may be the vocals because they have that "teenage" sound to them, ya know?

Foreign Lands would be considered their more "developed" release at the moment. It's more consistent and the songs fit together like legos. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone really. It's quite accessible.
