Dysrhythmia - Psychic Maps (Relapse, 2009)

Dysrhythmia are one of those bands that when you've heard everything from them, there's no way to decide which release is the best. This is because Dysrhythmia never changes styles really. There are some mild differences between Psychic Maps and their 2006 release Barriers and Passages.

Psychic Maps is more varied. Variety is, most of the time, a good thing. With this release, it makes the album very confusing to listen to as a whole. You really have to take in every song piece by piece. This album also has a lot more math rock influences than the last album, too. The technicality is just insane. You can't get over how many notes they can play in an entire song.

Overall, the album is really good, but maybe a little too hard to hear as a whole. It definitely shows improvement in what Dysrhythmia are trying to do when comparing this to Barriers & Passages. Spastic guitars, chugging bass lines, and jaw-dropping drum patterns; Dysrhythmia gets an A in all these categories.
