So, we've all heard the news. M.J. the king of pop is dead. Everybody should know. In mourning of his death, the lovely ladies at BUTTERxFACE have made a tribute album consisting of several different artists including bands we've mentioned here like Phil and the Osophers, Julian Lynch, and M. Pyres.
The songs range from the lo-fi bedroom pop we all know and love to glitchy electronic jams. Be aware they all still follow the lyrics of the original songs. The melodies may be a little tinged though. Even though they are loose, they're still covers. Good covers. The way the album plays is very good too. By that I mean the ordering of the songs. They all go in a smooth, stable wave, keeping similar songs next to each other.
Another thing about this compilation is that it has a very murky sound to it. You know, as if it was recorded on the other side of the wall the music was coming from. It adds a certain sadness to the music. As if we should be listening to this at Michael's funeral. Cute, spacial, and dark. Each of the elements are there, they may just be hard to catch. Michael, we will miss you.
