Vanish Valley - Vanish Valley (Hard Bark, 2010)

Vanish Valley is the solo project of Andrew McAllister, whom you may recognize from the group Conrad Ford. In the winter of 2008, McAllister moved from Seattle to Los Angeles after deciding to change his musical palette. There, he spent six months writing and recording Vanish Valley's debut, and has released it on his own label, Hard Bark. Using guitars and various thrift store instruments, he created a beautiful folk album that channels the works of the Flying Burrito Brothers and Townes Van Zandt.

The 1st track, "Blood of the Famous" alone is all you need to be drawn into the world of Vanish Valley; its mellowed-out guitar riff and McAllister's lyrics "Oh I'm living on the blood of the famous/Passing off my wrongs as right" were fantastic. If someone told me this song was released in early 70s, I would have believed them because of its authentically vintage sound.

Not one song on Vanish Valley serves as filler. In fact, every song is nothing less than bliss. This is a great album to mellow out to and adds enjoyment to these last few weeks of summer. I think the future is very bright for McAllister, and I hope he continues writing and recording more beautiful albums.
