The very talented miss Tracey Thorn held a competition on her twitter (
@Tracey Thorn) to have people who run blogs, much like this here, to have an opportunity to send in some questions.
Tracey Thorn, for those who are unaware, was one of the members of the utterly brilliant Marine Girls, half of the creative force in Everything But The Girl, and more recently has been pursuing a solo career.
In my fatigue and lack of hope for getting a reply I sent in only five serious questions of the permitted six, as per the competitions rules. As a result there's a sixth silly question for which I'm going to have apologise for in advance.
What's your favourite remix of one of your songs?I am very fond of lots of them. Very much love the Escort remix of It's All True.
You've had a long and illustrious musical career, what are the highlights and what are you looking forward to?
I'm trying to write a book about that career at the moment and one thing I've realised is that it's actually more fun talking about the things that go wrong than the glamorous highlights!
Jens Lekman said, "I've never heard anyone prove the impossibility of eternal love like Tracey." Do you believe in eternal love? Do you set out to prove a point in your songs?
I certainly don't try and prove points in songs at all. I think I just tell stories and try to be very accurate and draw attention to details that make things seem true and recognisable. Do I believe in eternal love? Er, that's a bit of a teenage phrase to my mind! It's hard enough to get to a bloody silver wedding anniversary, let alone ETERNITY.
Who has been your favourite person to collaborate with?
For a long time, Ben, but recently we have moved in slightly different directions, and I think having a break from collaborating with each other has been good for both of us. That's not to say we won't ever again in the future. Ewan Pearson has also been great to collaborate with, in that he's very supportive and creative, doesn't try and impose himself but just offers lots of ideas.
You're an avid twitterer, who's your favourite person to follow and favourite follower?
Most music people are sadly pretty boring. There's too much telling you about their upcoming releases and tours. Not enough jokes. All my favourite twitterers are funny and irreverent and have their own sort of style, even in 140 characters. I like the way Twitter can still allow people to express themselves, and you can get a real sense of people's personalities, even in such an abbreviated format.
How prevalent is misogyny in Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock?
I've never studied Alexander Pope. Too sexist (hahaha).
