White Fang - Grateful To Shred (Marriage, 2011)

Since they were in high school, White Fang have recorded and released dozens of CD-Rs, cassettes and records out of their hometown label, Marriage Records. Known for having chaotic basement shows, I've tried many times to get them to play one in my hometown. I'm sure if I played their new album on my CD player, with the volume up to the highest level, it would be exactly like a White Fang show right?

To be honest, their new album sounds like one huge mess-- in a good way, that is. Remember how shitty the early Times New Viking albums were? It's exactly like that but with more testosterone. Most of the songs clock in at about minute and a half or so but they're all pretty enjoyable. With most punk rock bands, it's pretty hard to take these guys seriously. With songs like "Can't Find My Weed" and "Gnar Shred," you won't see this band playing on Jools Holland anytime soon.

I'm not a huge fan of bands that do finger tapping on their guitars (except for Battles and Don Cab. I love Ian Williams... ahem) but I sure do enjoy it on their song "Funny Disguises." Reminds me when I use to go to my friends house and he would pretend to be Angus Young for two hours. Anyway, Grateful To Shred is a fun and energetic punk rock record to jam out to. It's obnoxious and loud, just like the album cover.
