Love Sex Machine - Love Sex Machine (Throatruiner, 2012)

A grammatically impaired band name, theatrically atrocious cover artwork, and morbid track titles: this debut is cursed. The curse is clearly self-imposed, too, because the repulsive veneer does aptly delineate Love Sex Machine's music. Pummeling for just over a half-hour, the band executes a dissonant, punishing form of sludge metal devoid of technical embellishments and dawdling. Despite Love Sex Machine not being of the most stone-faced metal acts today, to some, the presentation could remain a foil to their unmitigated intensity.

Following the stints of amplifier rumble that envelop every track's introduction, Love Sex Machine's music is as cataclysmic as the landscape gracing the album cover, sans all goofy perversions. Besmirched atonal guitars rupture the mix and resound with a distressing tenor. Screams pierce through coagulating layers of feedback skree, while the foundation of the all-encompassing tumult is comprised of a potent, chasmal rhythm section. These elements bind a song title as horrid as "Anal on Deceased Virgin" to its portended sound.

Regardless of its fortitude, the mixture doesn't quite equate to a wholly unique undertaking. To be straightforward, Love Sex Machine are essentially the second coming of the White Mice in their well distributed straddle of noise and metal. The comparison shouldn't undermine their seemingly inventive moments, though, like the heightened tempo on "Plenty of Feelings" and the faint semblance of attunement on "Killed By A Monster Cock". If its ugly motif makes metalheads recoil, there's a fair chance that Love Sex Machine's powerhouse audio content will drive them to submission.
