Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets (EMI, 1968)

If you heard of Pink Floyd, one of the first things that will come to your mind is their work on The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, or The Wall. This album is truly one of their most underrated works. It was their second album they released and the last album to be made with Syd Barrett. Barrett was known for making the space rock sound of Pink Floyd. But on this album, their sound evolves to progressive rock. The opening track, "Let There Be More Light" is one of my favorite Pink Floyd song of all time. It's a very space rock track. Surprisingly, the song was written by Roger Waters not Syd Barrett.

Most songs off of A Saucerful of Secrets have a very spooky vibe to it. Especially the track "A Saucerful of Secrets". I remember when the first time I listened to it, it scared the hell out of me. It makes you feel like you're in a horror film. Like you're waiting for someone to just jump out of nowhere and grab you. The last two songs "See Saw" and "Jugband Blues" are the last songs Syd Barrett did in Pink Floyd. "See Saw" has a very dreamy atmosphere. The melody sort of sounds like a see saw, going up and down. It's such a shame that Syd Barrett left the band. It goes to show that you shouldn't let drugs control your life.

If you never listened to Pink Floyd before, I'd definitely recommend this album.

EDIT: Huge mistake here (totally my fault). Syd Barrett did not write "See Saw". It was Richard Wright who did it.

  1. While everyone disagrees, I think A Saucer Full of Secrets is by far the coolest Pink Floyd album!
It really takes you somewhere unknown.
