Liechtenstein - Survival Strategies In A Modern World (Slumberland, 2009)

Although Swedish all-girl-group Liechtenstein have gained tons and tons of hype for their new album, the outcome of the album wasn't all too great.

What Liechtenstein and several other bands lack is variety. Pretty much every song sounded like a Throwing Muses rip off. And considering they were on Slumberland, you'd think that their music would get somewhat ballsier and actually have some kind of heaviness that'll grab your attention. The only track that really did it was "Roses In The Park" which barely got any heavier than the other tracks. The guitar's distortion was turned up just a tad bit. Now, I know I'm a noise enthusiast but, is an album really good if every song sounds nearly identical? No, at least it isn't in my book.

I'm not able to describe the sound of every single track because they'd all sound the same. It's very annoying and disappointing when a band thinks they can get so much attention and media hype because they're doing what Vivian Girls did. They're trying to sound dreamy by turning up the reverb. Liechtenstein didn't cut it on their debut album Survival Strategies in a Modern World. Luckily, the album doesn't flaunt its "lo-fi"-ness for too too long. Twenty minutes isn't much to take in.

I'll give the band credit for having nice melodies. That's always a plus in their music. Plus, it's not that bad, just really generic to what hipsters are listening to these days. I'd recommend this to any kind of girl group fan, because I'm pretty sure they'd enjoy it. I don't know, maybe it's just my tastes these days.
