In the United States, the 90's were all about grunge music. One band in particular that was ruling America was Nirvana. But over in the UK, it was all about Oasis. Oasis was formed in 1991 by Liam Gallagher. After playing one show, Noel Gallagher (Liam's bro) felt Oasis wasn't too great of a band so he decided to join under the condition of taking control of the music creativity. After playing a show in Glasgow, they signed a deal with Creation Records in 1993 after being spotted by Alan McGee. Definitely Maybe came out in 1994. It sold seven million copies worldwide.
One of the things I really love about this album is the gutiar riffs. The one that stands out partically for me is "Supersonic". The thing about Noel's guitar riffs is that they come out and grab your attention. I read somewhere that Noel took inspiration of the George Harrison song "My Sweet Lord". He also took inspiration of The Rolling Stones song "Shine a Light" for the song "Live Forever". Nice one Noel.
To me, most people (especially the indie snobs) are too afraid to say,"Hey Oasis are a great band". If you would ever tell an indie kid, "Hey that new Oasis album (Dig Out Your Soul) is pretty good". They would take a good look at you and say, "well Pitchfork gave it a 4.9" then walk away drinking their precious PBR.
Remember kids, don't read Pitchfork. Read Olive Music. Go out and buy Definitely Maybe and the rest of the Oasis catalogue. They are truely a band that has great music that will last for generations.
